Weather rarely holds us up since we’re not dealing with wet timber that needs drying time.

Lighter colors perform way better than dark browns or greys in direct sun. If your deck’s in full sun all day, we’d recommend either a premium heat-resistant brand or planning some shade coverage – pergolas or sails make a huge difference.

If you want the biggest color range and proven durability, Trex is hard to beat even though it’s imported. Modwood’s a great middle ground – Australian-made, handles our humidity and salt air brilliantly, and the price point’s more accessible than Ekodeck. Really depends on your budget and whether heat underfoot is your main concern or if you’re more focused on color options and long-term fade resistance.

Depends on the height and size of your deck. Gold Coast City Council generally doesn’t require approval for low-level decks under 1 meter high that aren’t over a certain size, but there’s exceptions. If you’re building close to boundary lines, over 1 meter high, or it’s a large entertaining area, you’ll need a building approval. The non-slip texture options are safer than timber when wet, and you don’t get the chlorine staining or water damage that kills timber pool decks. Salt water pools are even worse for timber but composite handles it no worries.
