Transform Your Outdoor Space with Expert Patio Builders

Luxurious covered patio building with insulated roof at dusk

Last summer, one of our clients told us she’d been hosting Christmas lunch inside for years because her backyard turned into a furnace by midday. After we built her insulated patio, she said it was the first time in a decade her family actually enjoyed being outside on Christmas Day. That’s what a proper patio does on the Gold Coast – it gives you back your outdoor space, even when the sun’s beating down or a storm rolls in off the coast.

We’re professional patio builders serving Gold Coast homeowners who want more than just a roof over their heads. From the concrete slab right through to your finished roofed entertaining area, we handle the complete construction. Whether you’re after an insulated patio that stays cool year-round or a traditional open design, we’re licensed builders who’ll get your council approvals sorted and build you something that’ll last.

    Our Patio Building Services

We handle the complete construction from start to finish – not just slapping a roof on and calling it done. When we build your patio, we’re starting with a properly engineered concrete slab, getting the levels and drainage right, then building up the structural framework whether that’s timber, steel, or aluminium depending on what works best for your design and budget.

    Complete Construction

We lay the concrete slab foundation with proper preparation and compaction. The structural posts and framework go up using timber, steel, or aluminium materials. Roofing installation includes insulated panels, Colorbond, or polycarbonate options depending on your needs. Electrical work gets integrated for your lights and ceiling fans. You can choose decking or tiling for the floor finish. Gutter and downpipe systems handle the water management properly.

    Patio Styles We Build

Attached patios connect seamlessly to your house as a natural extension. Freestanding pavilions work great when you want a separate entertaining area. We build gable, flat, or skillion roof designs to match your home. Open-air or enclosed options give you flexibility. Modern or traditional aesthetics – whatever suits your property and personal style.

    Additional Features

Built-in BBQ areas create permanent cooking stations. Outdoor kitchens with benches and storage get designed into the space. Ceiling fans and lighting make it comfortable day or night. Privacy screens or café blinds can be added when you want protection from wind or neighbors.

    Why Build a Custom Patio

A proper patio does more than just give you shade – it creates a whole new room for your home that happens to be outside. On the Gold Coast where we get that intense summer sun and those afternoon storms that roll in without warning, having a weatherproof entertaining area means you’re not constantly checking the forecast before inviting people over.

We see it time and again with our clients. They’ve got beautiful backyards they can barely use because it’s either too hot, too wet, or they’re worried about their furniture getting destroyed. A custom-built patio solves all that. You get year-round entertaining space that’s protected from the weather, a defined outdoor room that integrates with your home’s design, and an all-weather area for your BBQ and outdoor dining setup. Plus, when it comes time to sell, a quality patio adds serious value to your property. It’s one of those improvements that actually pays you back.

    Gold Coast Building Considerations

Building on the Gold Coast isn’t the same as building inland. We’re dealing with coastal winds that require proper engineering certificates, especially if you’re anywhere from Southport to Coolangatta. Insulated roofing makes a massive difference when you’re trying to actually use your patio in summer – a standard Colorbond roof without insulation turns into a heat reflector.

The tropical rain we get here needs proper drainage design or you’ll have water pooling where you don’t want it. Council approval can be tricky with setback requirements and height restrictions depending on your suburb. Foundation work has to account for our soil types, and termite protection is non-negotiable on the Gold Coast. We handle all of this so you don’t have to become an expert in building codes.

    Design & Planning

Every patio we build gets custom-designed to match your home’s existing architecture and your specific needs. We’re looking at how to maximize your entertaining space, where the sun hits at different times of day, and how to capture those afternoon breezes.

If you’ve got a pool or established gardens, the patio needs to integrate with those features properly. We’ll also talk through your furniture and fixture plans so everything fits the way you’re imagining. We start with a free design consultation at your property to understand what you’re after. Then we create detailed plans and handle the council approval process for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Patio Building

How long does it take to build a patio on the Gold Coast?

Most patios take 2-4 weeks from council approval to completion, but the approval process itself can add another 4-6 weeks depending on your local council. We’ve had jobs in Burleigh finish quicker than ones in Hope Island just because of council processing times. Weather can slow things down too – if we get a solid week of rain during construction, we’re not pouring concrete slabs because they won’t cure properly. Once we start your build, we’ll give you a realistic timeline based on your specific design and what council’s running at.

What's the best roofing material for a Gold Coast patio?

Insulated Colorbond is hands down the best option for our climate if you actually want to use your patio in summer. Standard Colorbond without insulation looks great but it radiates heat back down and you’ll be uncomfortable under there from November through March. Polycarbonate lets light through which some people love, but it also lets heat through and can be noisy when rain hits it. For coastal areas from Main Beach to Kingscliff, we always recommend materials that won’t corrode from the salt air.

Do all patios need council approval on the Gold Coast?

No, some smaller patios under 20 square meters might qualify as exempt development, but it depends on your property’s zoning and where you’re building it. If your patio’s attached to the house, within certain setbacks from boundaries, and under the height limits, you might not need approval. Problem is, most people want patios bigger than 20 square meters because that’s pretty small for entertaining, and the rules change if you’re adding electrical or building near easements. We always check your specific situation before we start because getting caught without approval when you needed it is expensive to fix.

How much does a patio cost to build in Gold Coast?

You’re typically looking at $15,000 to $40,000 for a quality patio depending on size, materials, and what features you want included. A basic 6m x 4m attached patio with Colorbond roofing and concrete slab sits around $18,000-$25,000, while the same size with insulated roofing, ceiling fans, and lighting pushes closer to $30,000. Add in things like built-in BBQ areas, premium decking instead of concrete, or a freestanding pavilion design and you’re moving into the $35,000-$50,000 range. Gold Coast pricing runs a bit higher than Brisbane because of our coastal building requirements and wind engineering.

How soon can I use my new patio after construction?

You can walk on the concrete slab after about 7 days, but we don’t recommend putting heavy furniture on it for at least 28 days while it fully cures – and that’s if the weather’s been dry. The Gold Coast humidity actually slows down concrete curing compared to drier climates. Once the roof’s on and electrical’s done, you can start using the space for light activities, but we’ve seen people crack their new slabs by moving a heavy outdoor dining set on too early. Your best bet is waiting the full month before you load it up with furniture and start hosting parties.

What size patio should I build for entertaining on the Gold Coast?

For comfortable entertaining, you want at least 20-25 square meters, which is roughly a 5m x 4m or 5m x 5m patio. That gives you room for a dining table that seats 6-8 people plus a separate lounge area or BBQ setup without feeling cramped. We see a lot of families in Varsity Lakes and Robina going for 6m x 4m patios because it handles their dining table, a couple of lounge chairs, and still leaves space for the kids to move around. If you’re in one of the bigger properties around Sanctuary Cove or Hope Island, a 7m x 5m or larger makes sense because you’ve got the yard space and you’re probably hosting bigger groups.

    Our Building Process

Our team handles the professional construction with all electrical and roofing trades coordinated properly. Quality inspection happens throughout the build, not just at the end. When we hand over your finished patio, it’s ready to use – you’re not waiting on final touches or fixes.
